You know the type- always complaining, no smile on their face and can bring down your mood if you just see them heading your way. Debbie Downer. Negative Nelly. Heather Weber.
Yep- I put myself into that group of delightful people. And I apologize for all the bad moods I've ruined over the past.....let me count for a second......9 months. The good news is that I seem to have lost my voice with my current cold. Lucky you! The bad news is that I'm still in the situation that has gotten me in such a funk. Unlucky you! But I promise to make every effort I can to remain positive, complain less and drink more. Well, maybe not so much the drinking part, but I'll give the other two every effort I can muster.
So thank you for sticking by me, thank you for listening and thank you for supporting me. I owe you.

For my Velveeta loving friend
Had a great time at Hairball on Saturday night! Nice to get out and see some good friends, listen to great music and watch some poor boys puking in their Lederhosen.
And a special treat for Lori-
And a special treat for Lori-
Still thinking we should start a band with a french horn, tuba and clarinet.

Figgy and the Four Amigos
Josie, Lydia, Reese and Zach came for a sleepover on Friday night! Our adventure consisted of dinner, a wearable science experiment, lots of playtime, root beer floats and lots of fun.
Our science experiment- how do we make green, purple and orange using blue, yellow and red?
The aftermath in the sink
Hey Reese!
Zach and Lydia
Root beer floats!
Um Heather, I don't like things in my ice cream
Snuggled in for a movie
This is how we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth
Discussing the bedtime rules and taking guesses of which friend might be the loudest at bedtime
And the winner is......
Figgy! She was so excited to have four sleeping buddies she couldn't contain herself!
Four of the kindest, smartest and most polite kids I've had the pleasure of knowing
Lydia's puzzle break- 2 down, one to go
Work in progress
I'm so proud of how grown up these kids have become. It was a very fun night and I'd be happy to do it again........later.

A wee little Weber!
St. Patrick's Day, which was clearly invented for the sole purpose of allowing Josie to wear green from head to toe, was celebrated in full glory today. Kari's House seemed much more fun than work- might have to spend the day there next year!
Getting ready for green day, which, by the way, meant putting on all the green clothes at 10:00 last night because she was too excited to sleep! |
Green hair? Sure thing!
The finished product
The traps were set- will they catch a leprechaun?
Something's funny here
Green milk! (and shot glasses- nice touch)
No leprechaun in the trap, but we found treasures!
Rainbow cupcake! Very fun idea!!
Truly green from head to toe

Isn't that was they are supposed to do????
Luckily the full article explains a bit more.

Huh? What?
Might have to consider this for Josie. Hopefully the antibiotics will clear up her current hearing problem!

The good, the bad and the ugly
The Ugly
Josie screaming in pain as she grabs her right ear
Continued crying/screaming/moaning the entire night
The migration of pain to include the left ear
The 2 hours of sleep we both got
The double ear infection diagnosed at Express Care
The Bad
Given the time of night and the day of the week, the ER was our only option and I wasn't willing to take it
Josie's insistence that the only acceptable sleeping position was draped across me in an upright position
Figgy's insistence that the only acceptable sleeping position was also draped across me in an upright position
The lack of a second parent to trade off with
The Good
The late night drug run to Oronoco for numbing drops (thanks a million!)
Grandma's willingness to tag along
Rx for antibiotics and numbing drops
Josie falling asleep in my arms- oh how I've missed that
A nice reminder that my delirious state, aching back/neck and pounding headache are all worth it to make my baby feel better

A Bible and a Blackberry
Several times in the past Brent and I have had discussions about our religious beliefs and how to best share these with Josie. She has gotten to really enjoy church (excluding choir, which she has made abundantly clear she wants nothing to do with) and we have had some very interesting discussions about God, prayer, grown up snacks (communion) and why Bayli’s mom sings on stage and I don’t. Her innocent questions have often got me asking my own questions, one of which continues to puzzle me today- why do we pray?
I’ve taken it one step further- what’s the difference between praying and planning ahead?
I think an accurate calendar, a detailed filing system and a label maker can take you pretty much anywhere you need to go in life. Think about it. You want to sell your house? Clean it up, price it well, pick a good realtor and BOOM- its sold. Want a new job? Get the proper education, write a killer resume, nail the interview and KAZAM- the job is yours. Need a new knee? Acquire an old sports injury, complete the prerequisite physical therapy and injections, endure several failed surgeries and KAPOW- shiny new metal in your leg. None of this has anything to do with the powers that be. Or does it?
My belief that planning ahead is all you need falls short sometimes. Like when confronted with childhood cancer, grown up cancer, natural disasters, resource actions and Charlie Sheen. I have no good explanation for any of those things and you sure as heck can’t organize your way out of those situations. So where does He come in?
You’ve heard the old saying about doors closing.
So who exactly closes that door? And why did they close it? My rational mind says the door was shut because you weren’t prepared enough to walk through it. My spiritual mind says the door closed because it was part of a bigger plan and you just haven’t received the memo yet. But I know people with great houses that haven’t sold yet, people with a powerful skill set that don’t get the job they were qualified for, and I don’t even get my started about the lack of my new knee. I want to believe in the power of prayer, the comfort of knowing that someone has a bigger plan for you than you could ever have for yourself, and that everything will always work out in the end.
So hear goes nothing.
Dear God,
I admit that I don’t always turn to you when I should. Sometimes I feel like I can open my own doors and don’t need any help. But right now I feel as if that door is shut, dead bolted and the key has been thrown away. I did my best to prepare, work through it and try to look at the bright side, but I have failed. I turn it over to you now. Please open another door, and soon. You know what? I’d even take a window, with a pretty bird singing on a branch right outside of it. That way I can be sure I don’t miss it.
Thank you.

The song that never ends
I apologize in advance if that song is now stuck in your head. It just seemed to fit the theme of this post too well so I had to do it.
Josie has been asking for "talk out loud books" for the past few weeks. I think she got the idea from our Dr. Seuss CD which has several of his more famous stories narrated by celebrities. Anyway, being the wonderful mother I am, I checked out the Scholastic book order to see what they had to offer. Unfortunately their selection either consisted of books we already had, books she wouldn't care for, and prices that seemed ridiculous. I then came up with the brilliant idea to record myself reading some of her favorite books. So I set up my recording studio (aka: computer room with webcam microphone) and set to work. After several failed attempts ("Mom, are you done yet" "Is it time for dinner" "Have you seen Figgy" right in the middle of the story) I burned the CD and handed my masterpiece over to Josie and her CD player. At this point I figured I could turn her loose with the pile of books and she'd have a jolly old time. Turns out I was right. It also turns out that reading Purplicious a million times is nowhere near as annoying as hearing yourself ready Purplicious with the CD on repeat.
Not so brilliant, huh?
