Blues
Josie discovered the harmonica this weekend (thanks Grandpa Tim!) and loves it!!! She had complete confidence that she could play when Grandpa let her use his on Saturday. By Monday evening she had a harmonica of her own!
She also has a little book of harmonica music and is busy practicing. I've also sent preemptive apology notes to the neighbors so she's good to go!

Throwback Thursday: One down
It was the summer before Brent and I got married. We enjoyed a nice weekend on Big Siss and were packing to head home. The boys were out covering the boat and mom and I were inside cleaning up. We had a yummy dinner the night before and there was some shrimp salad left over.
Eat some, mom said.
It will go bad otherwise, she said.
Plus, we only have this salad once in a while, she said.
So I ate the salad like a good girl. And it was yummy. The next thing I remember is mom yelling at me to hurry up so that she could was the bowl. As I began to focus again I realized my lips were a little tingly and my chest felt heavy. Uh oh! A quick trip to the mirror confirmed hives all over my body.
Take some Benadryl, she said.
It will make you feel better, she insisted.
And hurry up, I need to wash the bowl, she demanded.
As my throat continued to close we decided it was best to head to the ER, clean bowl or not. As we dashed outside to start the 30 minute trip to town the boys clearly didn't understand the urgency. They were happy to stay back at the camper and continue packing up the boat as if nothing was wrong.
I'll stop at the gas station for Benadryl, she said.
Here, turn the AC on full blast in your face, she suggested.
Are you still there, she asked.
Upon arriving at the hospital it was clear I needed some medical attention. More importantly, it was vital that I take the time to make sure I had insurance coverage before administering a life saving shot of epinephrine. I seem to recall something about throwing my insurance card on the desk and asking for help.....
This shot will only hurt a bit, they said.
You may feel a little jittery after, they warned.
See, all better, they insisted.
I spent the next three hours shaking in the front seat while Brent drove home. Funny how one little shot can get a person so wound up!
Fast forward 8 years................
Let's have a bloody mary, Ted said.
I'll bring the mix, you provide the vodka, he said.
This will taste great, he insisted.
And here I thought I was the only one who wanted to be an only child!

Sensitivity training
Apparently Josie needs it.
While driving to her soccer game on Saturday we started talking about running fast, going after the ball, and not being afraid to bump into someone.
Josie pointed out that she has sensitive skin and doesn't like to be run into.
A boy in her class bumped her with a book box and it was a plastic book box, not a paper one. It really hurt. Imagine what bumping into a person (not a paper one) would feel like.
Having sensitive skin hurts.
Its going to be a long season.

Age appropriate
Josie had a nightmare last night and claimed wholeheartedly that it was because she was upstairs without an adult. I think it was more likely the whole "angel of death" conversation we had after she learned about it at school yesterday. That is a whole different conversation.....
Anyway, Josie came downstairs wanting to snuggle so she could forget the dark angel. As she begged and begged for us to go to bed at the same time she does (you know, so she won't have to be upstairs without an adult) we pointed out that there are plenty of times she's gone to bed upstairs without an adult present. She seems to do fine with it at the lake, at grandma and grandpa's, friend's houses.......heck, even at our own house with Ted as a babysitter! We were quickly corrected that Ted is NOT an adult, he's a grown up. Further discussion revealed the following:

We were quickly corrected that Ted is NOT an adult, he's a grown up. Further discussion revealed the following:
Baby- apparently these are people who still poop their pants and can't eat cake.
Toddler- these are people who still poop their pants but reach a very annoying stage when they can move around. (Ozzie fits in the classification right now).
Big kid- these are people who no longer poop their pants but are not quite ready for school.
Schoolager- these are people that go to school.
Teenager- these people are between 13 and 19 years old.
Grown up- these people are 20-29 years old.
Adult- these people are 30 and up. Or under 30 but married because marriage makes you an adult.
I'm not sure at what age we revert back to the baby stage. Let's face it- pooping in pants and inability to eat cake does come back at some point. I'm afraid to ask Josie to put an age on it.
Enjoy your last year as a grown up Teddy! Adulthood will be a whole new world for you.

Special friends
Josie (and Kate) have some pretty special friends! Over the past week Josie has been blessed to receive handmade clothes from two separate friends.
The first is a beautiful outfit made by Alisa's grandmother. We are honored to have this piece of family history.
The next items are from family friend Ann (Josie's great-great Aunt if you will). She used her time and newly developed talent to crochet some things for both Kate and Josie.

Throwback Thursday: Prom season
What do you get when you combine a big hat, big hair and wisdom teeth removal? Prom season of course!
Suddenly my dad's head seems very small, my hair seems very big and you can hardly see the yellow/green bruises on my cheeks from my wisdom teeth removal one week prior to prom. Don't even get my going on this:
a. who approved this hairstyle?
b. why is my dad in fishing gear?
c. who approved wisdom teeth removal a week before prom?
d. why am I so pale and wearing a white dress?
e. who likes the Wizard of Oz?

Wedding Bells
Nope, not Ted. Although Josie feels she is getting too old to be a flower girl so he better hurry up.
Josie begged me to read Cinderella's Royal Wedding the other night and that got her talking about what she wants for her wedding. In her words......
The dress:
Will be white with pink. Pink bows on the shoulders. And the back. And on the sides. With a really long dress thing in the back (train) that also has pink bows. Lots of bows on the long dress thing. Like Cinderella's dress, but white and pink.
The bride (which is what she calls a veil):
Of course it will be white with probably some pink bows. And sparkle. Glitter maybe? Yes. Glitter. But I don't want to wear it the whole time because it might get itchy.
The bridesmaids:
I will have 3 because I don't want too many. They will also have a long dress thing but not as long as mine. One will wear pink, one will wear fuchsia and one will wear light blue. They should each have a bow in their hair that matches their eye color. Or it could be my birthday color (peridot) because that's pretty too.
The cake:
There will be lots of people but I don't want lots of cake. And some friends don't like frosting so not too much frosting either. But dad likes chocolate so there has to be some chocolate too. And he likes frosting. So maybe half frosting? I like chocolate too.
The music:
Down the aisle- I really like music. I don't want that here comes the bride song because I don't know how to sing all of it. Maybe have Bruce (Springsteen)? Yes. Either Glory Days or Born in the USA.
Father/daughter dance- Definitely a fishing song because I love to do that with my daddy. I think he would like that. And then we will dance and I will shake my bumper.
