No W up H

I kinda like this cryptic note thing from Josie. First it was a "no H" sign on the drawer that my Mother's Day present was in. Now she's placed a new sign on the end of my bed for when I want to lay down for a nap.

No W(ake) Up H

Love it!

It's in your head

Josie has made some great progress on sight words lately, which has further added to her love of books and reading. As a matter of fact, she packed a big bag of books to bring to the camper and said she planned to "spend my time reading" this weekend.

Last night after reading her bedtime stories Josie asked if she could continue to read her books while I finished a chapter in my own book. As we were curled up reading together she kept asking how I was reading if I wasn't saying the words out loud. I simply explained that I read the words and hear them in my head. A few minutes later she snuggled up against me and kept pressing her ear to my ear. Here I thought she was trying to snuggle in to fall asleep until she asked why she couldn't hear me reading the words in my head.

Oh the simple logic of a 5 year old.

One of these things is not like the other

Feet up, dress shoes, picture of the lake as your office desktop.

Feet up, good book, glass of beer, on the porch at the camper.

Luckily the office scene will soon be replaced by the porch scene.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful long weekend!

Dem bones

I spent last Monday morning talking with Josie's daycare about bones and x-rays.

We learned about bones and how many are in your body

We put together an x-ray skeleton and looked at x-rays of animals

We did a skeleton dance and made an x-ray hand print

And enjoyed a bone snack
(pretzels with marshmallows on the end covered in white chocolate

Book and release

Deputy Weber, aka daddy, talked with Josie's daycare today about law enforcement and jail. The kids were very interested in how much jail is like a time out for adults. They got to step through the booking procedure, receive medication (Skittles), wear handcuffs and have their fingerprints taken. Lots of fun!

Deputy Brent and detainee Heather

Brent even got to cuff his mother-in-law!

Fishing with Jo

Brent's idea of fishing with his daughter: lots of pink lures and a case of Lakemaid beer. Looks pretty darn perfect to me!

Oh happy day!

To all the moms and moms-to-be
To the grandmothers and great-grandmothers
To the Godmothers and aunts
To the mother-in-laws and stepmothers (unless you're the wicked kind)

Happy Mother's Day!

I guess she told me!

Josie has made an extra effort to point out a sign which is taped to her nightstand. Yes, it says "Josie No H" as in "Josie's drawer, no Heathers allowed". I'm told it may or may not have anything to do with a certain holiday in the very near future and that any time I see that sign I'm not allowed to open whatever it's taped to.

I can envision her teenage years now....and I see "No H" signs taped everywhere!

Best. App. Ever.

I happened to stumble upon this app and fell in love with it!
  • Its fun for both children and adults
  • It offers endless creativity and customization
  • Josie has the chance to learn the components of a (good) story, complete with music

Toontastic
  •   And the best part? Some of her finished productions are hilarious!
Check these out!
 Resuce the princess

Pirate: Ahh, ahh, ahh
Monkey: Ooh, ooh ooh
Prince: I'll save you
Princess: No thank you
Prince: Are you sure?
Princess: Yes. Walk the plank.
Prince: Oh my gosh I need to walk the plank.
Shark: Grrr, grr, grrr

 Scary noise

My beautiful princess

Like mother, like daughter

About 3 months before I turned 6, my grandpa Dick took me to the circus and I got to ride on an elephant. That's me- 2nd from the back. Aren't I cute?

This weekend, about 3 months before Josie turns 6, I took her to the circus and she got to ride on an elephant. That's her- 2nd from the back. Isn't she cute?

I don't have much recollection from my childhood event, but Josie had quite a bit to say yesterday.

1. She loved the circus
The clowns who went with us

2. Tigers are a lot bigger than Figgy. And less cuddly.
The tigers being rolled in

3. Elephants are soooo cool! And strong.

4. Riding an elephant is cool too......but she was "medium" nervous before the ride.

Looking a little concerned

We will, we will rock you

We have more rock than we know what to do with! Some intentionally placed and some we wish would just go away.

Intentional: a border around the shed and the storage space behind it. We're pretty happy with how it turned out.

Not intentional: the layer upon layer upon layer of buried rock we discovered along the cement patio. And this was AFTER we transferred what we thought was 99% of the rock from this area to behind the shed. Turns out we were wrong.....by a long shot.

So now we wait for a call back from a landscaper because we give up! Oh the joys of owning a home!
