Josie's school is participating in the
100 Book Challenge which requires us to read together for at least 30 minutes per day at home. And the parent reading with her signs off on a log sheet each day. Sounds easy, right? Well, enter reality which includes dinner, playtime, bath time, sports, church, homework and.........downtime.
Last week we were doing really well with the 30 minutes until we hit Wednesday. I got out of work late, my plan of a quick dinner was not exactly quick, and then we needed to head to church and Sunday school (yes, Sunday school on a Wednesday). We scurried home at 7:30 and Josie still needed a bath so I decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone- I read her a few chapters while she was in the bath and Brent read a couple more (very loudly I might add) while I dried her hair. Voila! 30 minutes accomplished. I signed that log sheet and got on with my night!
The next day as I picked Josie up from school she was busy telling me that we didn't do her reading log correctly. She was certain that she had to read to me so the bathtub/hair drying attempt from the night before didn't count. But no worries- Josie informed me that she told her teach we didn't really do it but that I signed the log sheet anyway. Really Josie? Busted by my 6 year old for something I didn't even do wrong!
For tonight's 30 minutes of reading we will be reviewing the 100 Book Challenge rules which explicitly count her reading, us reading together or being read to as approved activities. So take that!
