I distinctly remember Ted watching sports on TV when he was younger. It would go a little something like this:
- Ask for permission to watch TV
- Find the ___________(fill in the blank with a sport) game on TV
- Within 10 minutes of watching, go dig out the ___________ (fill in the blank with a team name) jersey or whatever sort of sports apparel might be appropriate for the ___________ (fill in the blank with a sport) game he was currently watching
- Start throwing/bouncing/rolling __________ (fill in the blank with the appropriate equipment required for said sport listed above) in the house
- Get yelled at for throwing/bouncing/rolling ___________ (fill in the blank with the appropriate equipment) in the house
- Go outside and continue throwing/bouncing/rolling ___________ (see above)
- Gather enough neighborhood friends to now have an entire team to compete in __________ (fill in the blank with the sport that started this whole mess)
- Break a collar bone or two
- Come back inside when it was time for bed
I'm seeing some similarities with Josie these days. And while I wish it was soccer that she was asking to watch on TV, its often some form of Princess madness that takes place in our house. And here's how it goes:
- Wake up in the morning
- By morning, I mean waaaaay to early, so she asks to play in her room instead of hearing me spout off about how she wakes up early on "stay home days" but we have to drag her out of bed kicking and screaming all the other days of the week (but that's a whole separate blog post)
- Choose __________ (fill in the blank with a princess name) as her muse for the day
- Rename all other toys in the vicinity to names contained in the story about __________ (said princess)
- Decide that simply playing __________ (said princess) isn't enough, so its time to drag out some sort of costume to dress up as _________ (said princess)
- No princess scenario is complete without the evil queen/witch/villain. Go back into mom's room and ask her to be ___________ (fill in name of evil queen/witch/villain)
- When mom complains (yes, she's out of bed by this point) about always having to be _________ (said queen/witch/villain) decide she's not worth having around and make Figaro play that role instead
- When Figaro falls asleep laying in the sun (as she usually does), go back and ask mom to play with you again. This time promise she can be the ______________ (fill in the blank with a wicked step-mother).
- Again, mom complains about having to play the role of ________ (name of step-mother) so ask her to leave you alone for a while
- Play princess independently for quite some time
- Get bored of playing princess
- Asks to go outside and ride her princess scooter or princess bike
- Come back inside when its time for bed
The moral of both stories? Apparently it is essential to wear the appropriate attire when acting out your favorite activities. I do believe I'll follow suit and stay in my PJ's all day today in hopes of pretending to catch up on some sleep.
