Leap Day

As a summer baby Josie doesn't often get to celebrate her birthday at school. Some teachers forget to include the summer b-days, some teachers don't care, and sometimes when a teacher does care the summer b-day kid ends up with strep on the designated school celebration day.

Josie's teacher this year indicated that she does a big birthday celebration for each student and that summer birthdays should sign up for their own day. Since Leap day is Josie's half birthday and it actually exists this year we thought that might be a great day for her school celebration.

Wrong.

She went to school and enjoyed a special birthday chair, a special birthday privilege (chewing gum all day), a special birthday card, a special birthday song and gifts from the teacher. Somehow we expected her to come home and return to normalcy.

Wrong.

I was at the Springsteen concert to Brent graciously indulge Josie in her half birthday celebration. They had a special dinner out and then an ice cream cake at home for dessert. Apparently Josie was also expecting a present.

Wrong.

Thank goodness February 29th won't roll around again until 2020.
